Do you have plans this year?

"Woe to the rebellious children," declares the Lord, "Who execute a plan, but not Mine, and make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, in order to add sin to sin;"  Isaiah 30:1

I'm a natural planner. I believe that's the way God wired me. Planning anything is actually enjoyable to me. For some of you reading this, planning makes you want to throw up. You'd prefer jumping out there and going for it in hopes that everything will work out. I admire that. Sometimes I wish I could live on  edge and be a little more adventurous. Instead, I'll just sit here with my pen and notebook planning every minute of my life. Exciting I know!

There's nothing wrong with a plan. I believe the old adage, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

However, as a follower of Jesus Christ there is one thing I must ALWAYS remember…God's plan trumps my plan.

I'm certainly guilty of making plans when I haven't truly consulted the Lord. Sometimes, I can draw up the greatest plan and then ask God to bless it. This is rebelliously backwards. As followers of Jesus Christ, we should ALWAYS seek His plan for our lives, families, finances, work, or marriage first above all else.

Why should wee seek God's plan first?

His plans are higher. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways…" Isaiah 55:9.

His plans are perfect. "For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness." Isaiah 25:1

His plans are prosperous. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity…" Jeremiah 29:11

God has stern words for those who desire to carry out their own plans. "Woe to the rebellious children," declares the Lord, "Who execute a plan, but not Mine…" (30:1) Instead of praise for executing a plan, the Lord describes this person a rebellious child. Someone who has wondered off from the direction and provision of the parent.

Whatever this year brings you, seek the Lord. Pursue His divine and perfect plan for your life. Choose to be obedient in whatever circumstances come your way. Ask Him to guide your heart, your head, and your feet. He most certianly will.

As a follower of Jesus Christ there is one thing I must ALWAYS remember…God's plan trumps my plan.
