Beef Up your Prayers

When you read about prayer in the Bible, it’s never described as something wimpy or fragile. It’s always described as a strong, powerful practice. For example:

“the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” – James 5:16

“I know this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:19

The Scriptures are filled with men and women who prayed bold and powerful prayers.  Elijah prayed for rain, and Hannah prayed for a baby.  David prayed for deliverance while Jonah prayed for salvation. Solomon prayed for wisdom and Jeremiah prayed for guidance.

Even Jesus taught that prayer had the power to deliver us from evil and cast out demons!

Here’s my point…PRAYER IS POWERFUL!

We may know this in our head, but do we show this in our hearts.

I know I’m guilty of wimpy prayers.  Praying for a good night sleep.  Praying for a “great day.”  Praying for my food to be “blessed.”  I’m not saying we shouldn’t pray for these things.  I’m saying we need to remind ourselves of our God we pray to.  He’s a POWERFUL GOD!

Let’s approach His throne humbly and boldly.  Let’s beef up our prayers by asking God to revive our nation.  Let’s ask Him to restore broken marriages.  Let’s intervene for those battling cancer and pray for divine healing.  Let’s pray for the next generation of church leaders.  Let’s pray for the nations who have yet to hear the gospel message.  Let’s pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. Let’s pray for conviction to fall upon our lives so we can walk in holiness.

Big things happen when we pray big prayers.  Let me challenge and encourage you to beef up your prayer life.  Here are 3 questions to help you grow forward in your prayers.

1. If God answered your prayers today with a ‘yes,’ would anyone be effected but you?

If our prayers are only for our own needs, then we have missed the mark. Praying for others keeps your heart outward focused. It really is an act of love to intercede on behalf of someone else.

2. If God answered your prayers today with a ‘yes,’ would anyone become a follower of Christ?

Every day we should call out the names of our lost friends and family. Never give up praying for someone’s salvation.

3. If God answered your prayers today with a ‘yes,’ would anything of significance happen?

The size of your prayer says much about the size of your God. I want to be a person of bold, believing prayer because “He who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according tot he power that works within us…” Ephesians 3:20
